Kathmandu. The government is set to table the Federal Civil Service Bill in Parliament. Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting took the decision.
The government is taking the bill to Parliament despite the advice given by the Public Service Commission. The Commission had disagreed in particular with the provisions of a 30-year pension period, a retirement age of 55, and direct appointment from outside to posts such as secretary, joint secretary and director general. The government, however, is moving ahead with the bill in a way that would retire more than ten thousand employees at once.
After the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said that, to move the law-making process forward, approval had been given to table three important bills in the Federal Parliament.
According to him, approval was given to table in the Federal Parliament the bill to amend and consolidate the law on the federal civil service, the bill to amend the Animal Slaughterhouse and Meat Inspection Act, 2055, and the bill to amend the Act Relating to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, 2074.
